RED SOX 2007 AL EAST CHAMPS!!!

Cooch, how sweet is it to finally be able to call our Sox that? After YEARS of coming up short against the arrogant Yanks, including narrowly missing out on the division the last four years, how sweet does this taste?! 12 fucking years since the last division title. Although a division title isn't the "ultimate goal", I'd be lying if I said I didn't want this BAD.

Nice to see Dice-K end the season with a strong outing. He's the wild card to the Sox playoff run, IMO. Him pitching well is gonna be paramount to the Sox advancing far in the playoffs. Especially with him being the #2 on this team.

In the meantime, magic number is ZERO, snitches!!!

Very sweet indeed. Now the Yanks fans have nothing to talk about. We're the AL East Champs and have won a World Series more recently than them. Shut your fucking pieholes, Yankees fans, that's what I'm saying.

To add to your point about Dice-K being the wild card (no pun intended, right?), I would include Eric Gagne in the shortlist of guys who may prove pivotal in the postseason.

Man, just looking back at the trials and tribulations of the division:

2005: Sox/Yanks finished with the same record, Yanks won tiebreaker

2004: Sox finished 3 back

2003: Sox finished 6 back

2002: Sox won 93 games but still finished 10.5 back

2001: Sox finish 13.5 back after collapsing in the second half

2000: Sox finish 2.5 back

1999: Sox finish 4 back

1998: Sox win 92 but finish 22 back!

Even for the last division title run in '95, the strike shortened that season to 144 games (86-58).

In '90, the Sox took the AL East with only 88 wins. Gotta love that sliding catch by Brunansky, but I digress...

"Morgan's Magic" Sox in '88 took the AL East crown with 89 wins.

You have to go all the way back to '86 to find a Sox division winner that won over 90 games. That team was 95-66. Ironically, the '07 Sox clinched the division with the same win total.

Sweet indeedy do!

Looking ahead to the playoffs, we'll see what kind of role Tito has for Gagne. Will his regular season horribleness deter Tito from using him in big spots? Or will Tito remain unwavered in his enthusiasm to use the french fry in high leverage situations?

In any event, it's nice to see the organization has a plan and are following through on that plan. They shut Okajima down so he can be rested for the playoffs. They pushed Dice-K's final regular season start back so they could get him some extra rest and line up their playoff rotation. They shut Mancrush II down for the season so he can be healthy enough to be a key piece to this puzzle going forward.
