MLB '05 Opening Day: Red Sox vs. the Yankees at Yankee Stadium

Red Sox 2, Stinkees 9
Sunday, April 3, 2005

Just a few observations:

1. Mark Bellhorn is already in midseason form, continuing where he left off last year - that is, leading the league in strikeouts! After his 3 whiffs in the MLB '05 season opener, he's on pace to strikeout 486 times...

2. I heart Tanyon Sturtze. Sturtze, who is allegedly being stalked by Cooch, opened the season with two perfect innings of work against Cooch's beloved Red Sox. He is certainly the front-runner for the Cy Young award (ah, Sturtze, not Cooch)...

3. Speaking of perfect games: had it not been for the 2 hit-batsmen, walk, balk, and 10 hits in 4.1 innings, David Wells would have also been on pace for a perfect game! BWAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHH

Man lay off Bellhorn. How soon you forget how clutch he was in the post-season for us. Yeah he strikes out a lot. But when he does connect with the ball, it's usually at an opportune time.

And I'm sorry, anybody that endorses Tanyon Sturtze...

Well, with two more Ks today (only two Ks, that is), Bellhorn has drastically cut his projected season total from 486 Ks to 405!!!

Too bad Horny isn't a starting pitcher. Maybe then we could have gotten a quality start in either of the first two games...

lessee, after 6 games, bellhorn has struck out 11 times - there was actually 1 game that he DIDN'T strikeout... he struck out at least twice in each of the other 5.

now he's only on pace to K 297 times this season...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he doesn't come near 297 K's this season.

Dude, your silence was deafening in the playoffs last year. It was hard to hear your criticisms with Horny's HRs hitting the foul pole...

Alright, I've reached my boiling point

I am absolutely SICK of Bellhorn K'ing all the fucking time! I mean what the fuck is his major malfunction? How can a second baseman strike out so damn much? I'm at the point where I have zero confidence in him to do anything except strike out. Does this guy take batting practice? Does he need laser eye surgery? It just baffles me that somebody can strike out so damn much. Especially a second baseman...

[Editor's note, again: I told you so just doesn't do this post justice...]
